It's the President's Day holiday today, and with some cold, but sunny weather, we decided to get out and enjoy some time skiing together. We headed over to the Tilson Creek Trails. Noelle and I have skied there a few different times this winter, (especially with the government shutdown earlier this year)
but it would be Sierra's first time.
The trail starts with a fairly steep downhill. Sierra took it on and didn't even fall! The highlight of the trip was the shelter. I had made some hot cocoa and hauled it out there in a thermos in my backpack. I also hauled out some kindling and marshmallows.
I started a fire and we enjoyed roasting marshmallows and drinking the cocoa for a bit before skiing back to the car on the wetland section of trail.

Skiing Lake Bemidji State Park
Today was another day to get out of town. We headed down to Bemidji for the day. We started with a ski at Lake Bemidji State Park. The trail system there is a bit confusing, but we started near the visitor center and headed north across the highway to an easy loop.
The woods were very beautiful and peaceful.
Despite the beautiful weather, we didn't see many others out on the trails.
Sierra put her new gliding skills to good use.
She fell a few times, but she's gotten much better at getting herself up on her own. She was a bit tired and when we arrived back at the parking area,
she collapsed in a snow bank.
At that point we were ready for lunch at Bemidji Brewing.

Skiing the Forest History Center
Today Noelle, Sierra and I decided to get out of town for a day trip down to Grand Rapids. After lunch at Culver's we headed over to the Forest History Center to try skiing on the trail system there. We parked in the lot
and hit the trails, headed down towards the Mississippi River.
We then headed back up towards the parking lot, passed the visitor center and then skied over to the logging camp.
We skied through the camp and then into the beautiful forest.
Finally, we headed back up to where we had started for a nice ski of about 3 kilometers or so. After our ski, we headed over to Klockow Brewing for a beer and the game of Life. Our last stop was the Aldi for some grocery shopping before the long drive back to the Falls.
