Scotts Bluff National Monument: South Bluff

Today we were forecast to have extremely pleasant weather, so Noelle, Sierra and I headed over to the monument to hike up South Bluff. We've all been up there before, but today I thought we would check out the east side of the bluff that overlooks Dome Rock.

We parked at the visitor center parking lot, crossed Old Oregon Trail and headed across the flats

and up the slope on the west side of Crown Rock.

It was a steep hike up, but once we were up on top the views were pretty awesome.

We headed out on the east ridge on a fairly flat prairie.

When we reached the eastern edge of the ridge, the views were awesome!

After relaxing for a bit there, it was time to start to head back to the car. We found an old piece of glass soda bottle on the way.

Then we started to make our way back towards the base of Crown Rock.

From there we hugged the base of the rock,

then started down the steep slope to the flatland below.
