Hamilton Grange National Memorial

 From Central Park we took the subway north up to 135th Street. We headed into St. Nicholas Park and headed up to Hamilton Grange, the one and only home ever owned by Alexander Hamilton. The home has been moved twice over the years. It was first moved to near the corner of 141st and Convent Streets in 1888. We stopped by that location after our tour of the Grange and there is still a statue of Hamilton at that location, 

along with the abandoned St. Luke's Episcopal Church.

We began our visit in the visitor center which is located in the basement level of the Grange. There were a few exhibits inside and theater that showed two films, one about Hamilton and the other about the more recent move of the building in 2008. We had time to kill before our tour and the visitor center was very crowded with a day camp group, so I opted to go outside and explore the grounds a bit and eat a snack.

Soon enough, it was time for our short tour. The ranger led us to a central hall and told us a bit about Hamilton and the home, then we had a little bit of time to explore a few rooms on our own.

After a short time checking out the rooms, we headed back out into the heat. We made our way to the 137th St/City College subway station and traveled south to 72 Street where we got lunch at Gray's Papaya.
