State Forest State Park: Lake Agnes

Yesterday, after work, we packed up the car, ate dinner and hit the road. We drove up the Cache la Poudre Canyon to Mountain Park Campground where we spent the night. This morning, after breakfast, we headed up Colorado Highway 14, over Cameron Pass, and into State Forest State Park for the hike to Lake Agnes.

After paying the park entrance fee, we drove the fairly rough road to the trailhead. The CR-V had no issues with the road. We parked at a great view of the surrounding mountains,

and after getting our boots on and our packs ready, we hit the trail, passing the old Lake Agnes Cabin.

Almost immediately, there were awesome views of the surrounding terrain.

There were also a few wildflowers in bloom; what appeared to be some type of paintbrush flower.

We continued our hike, climbing gently on the well-graded trail.

Every now and then we encountered a snow pile. Every pile of snow that we encounters was an opportunity for Rosie to play.

Soon, we approached Lake Agnes and the spectacular scenery got even better.

We followed the trail counter-clockwise, past several overlooks.

Besides the views of the lake and mountains, there were some wildflowers to admire.

As we explored, the sky clouded up a bit and it started to rain. We decided to start to make our way back to the trailhead.

Soon enough, we were back to the car and ready for the next adventure of the day!
