The whole family is here and today we celebrated by going for an easy and scenic family hike at Medary Quarry which is just outside of LaCrosse. We followed some good directions I found on the internet to the parking area at the end of a dead-end road. The hike did not start out very promising though. The trail was very overgrown and we considered turning around and abandoning our plans. Luckily, we persisted and soon found ourselves hiking through a beautiful prairie landscape
with lots of wildflowers in bloom.
The hike was short, only about 2 miles round trip, but a loop. The first part followed high on the top of a bluff
while the second half of the hike followed an old road down to the abandoned quarry.
It was a pleasant way to spend a few hours with the family.

Looks like a nice hike. I love open prairie, mostly when it's backed up by mountains. I hope to one day have access to that every day of the year.
