Yesterday, the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 made its way through Scotts Bluff National Monument and into the city of Gering. Noelle, Sierra and I went down to Union Pacific Park to see the huge steam engine. We got there as the sun was setting and so didn't get the best views of it.
This morning the engine and its train were set to leave Gering for the next leg of its trip to Omaha for the College World Series. I staked out a location on the outskirts of town that I thought might offer a good view. It was on the north side of the railroad tracks as the tracks head east of town. We made the drive out to that location around 8:30 and waited for the train to arrive, as it was set to depart Gering at 9 a.m.
We had to wait a bit longer than we expected,
but our patience was rewarded with a great view of the engine as it stopped right by us before eventually heading out of town.
I got some video of the train approaching our location before leaving Gering.
