Elephant Rocks State Park

We awoke this morning, ate breakfast and packed up the car. It was chilly as we headed over to Elephant Rocks State Park. I had seen photos of the place and thought it looked interesting and so we headed out on the Braille Trail on cold, but sunny morning.
The first point of interest was a crude WWI memorial carved into one of the rocks.
The site was once a quarry and there were lots of piles of broken rock lined up along the trail.
Rocks quarried from the site were used to build the Anheuser-Busch Brewery among other St Louis landmarks.

The next major point of interest was the old Engine House ruins.
We explored the ruins for a bit
before heading back to the main trail.

We admired the view from an official "overlook"
and soon found ourselves among the "elephant rocks" on the top of the ridge.
Besides the rocks themselves,
one of the attractions on the ridge were the signatures of the stone-cutters that they had carved into the rock.
One of the rocks Sierra thought looked more like a hippo than an elephant.
We walked through the "Fat Man's Squeeze"
and then found ourselves overlooking a water-filled quarry.
Soon thereafter, we were back to the parking lot and our car ready for our next adventure.
