Sycamore Shoals State Park

After checking out the Doe River Covered Bridge we headed over to Sycamore Shoals State Park to check things out.
The first thing we did a Sycamore Shoals after the visitor center was to head over to the reconstructed Fort Watauga.
There is not a whole lot there and it isn’t interpreted very well. From the fort we hiked an easy section of trail along the Watauga River.
The trail is a portion of the Overmountain Victory Trail
which traces the route that the frontier colonists took in pursuing the British troops that they engaged and routed at King’s Mountain in South Carolina. We enjoyed the walk along the river
and then headed for home after our nice day in Elizabethton.
